Creating a Scratched / Smudged Glass material

Materials

1. Glass with Scratches…

BASE LAYER…

  • Create a Glossy Layer.
  • Use a White color in both Reflectance & Transmittance.
  • Select a color for the Absorption. (optional)
  • Increase Absorption value based on the object’s size. (optional)

SCRATCHES LAYER…

  • Make a copy of the Base Layer (Right-Click & Duplicate)
  • Move it at the top.
  • Change the Layer Weight to a value of ~10%.
  • Load a Scratch map in the Bump Channel and lower the value to something like 10%.

Adjust the scratches effect by changing the Layer Weight of the Scratches Layer.

2. Glass with Smudges

Contrary to scratches, smudges or fingerprints need a different semi-transparent layer on their own.

BASE LAYER…

  • Create a Glossy Layer.
  • Use a White color in both Reflectance & Transmittance.
  • Select a color for the Absorption.
  • Increase Absorption value (depends on the size of the object).

DIRT LAYER…

  • Create a Basic Layer.
  • Select a bright color for the Diffuse Channel (not over 220,220,220)
  • Load the Dirt Map in the Layer Weight and adjust the percentage.
  • Select White for the Reflection Channel.
  • Increase Roughness to 25%.

Adjust the scratches effect by changing the Layer Weight of the Scratches Layer.
