From v1.5.09.539.1462 onwards, it is easy to modify the fog in a scene with two new options.

Using Global Medium from the Environment Tab

To enable fog, go to Thea Rendering Window > Environment Tab > Global Medium.  Change the default value of No Medium to Fog. Let’s see the available options:

  • Fog Density
    Use this slider to control how dense the fog will be.
  • Top Level (m)
    The value sets the maximum height of the fog.
  • Base Level (m)
    The value sets the minimum height of the fog.

Using the Top & Base Level values, you can control the height of the fog in relation to the scene’s height.


Using the Cloud Material Preset

The second way of adding fog in a scene is by using the new Cloud Material Preset. Having it as a material, allows the user to apply it on any solid volume, group or component, available in a scene. To make use of it, do the following:

  • Create a SketchUp material and apply it to a Solid Goup or Component (Container).
  • Open the Thea Tool window and click to select the material.
  • From the Presets drop-down, select the Cloud one.

Adjusting color & Density of the Cloud Preset

Now, you can control how dense the fog will be by adjusting the opacity slider of the SketchUp material. You may also change the color by using the color picker.

The Cloud can be used to simulate haze at a certain location or when you want add a fog only outside a building, while the interior can be free of it.

In any case that you need the camera to be placed inside a container having a Cloud material, you will need to select the material from the Container drop-down menu in the Thea Tool – Camera settings tab.

You can do this by going to: Thea Tool > Camera Tab > Container Drop-Down

In this way, the selected material will always be assigned to the active camera.
